2009 YEAR IN REVIEW: EVENTS ON THE BLOCK

Avenue Pink wants to wish it's loyal supporters a Happy New Year! We hope your holiday season was memorable :-)

2009 is done, wrapping up the first decade of the millennium. Avenue Pink is ready to make in happen for 2010, but we're also reflecting on some great experiences we've had at different events. Check out the different pictures of events that the AP ladies covered below!

Screening for Mario Van Peeble's BET special "Bring Your A Game." Mario was there with his father promoting his latest project that featured African American males who discuss their struggles climbing the ladder to success. Here are some pictures from the reception, the panel before the film and the panel following the screening:

Hip-Hop 4 Life's "Fatropes to Shelltoes" fundraiser hosted by Ed Lover and Free. With boombox giveaways, views of old school videos and dance contests from old-school tunes, it was definitely a night filled with good times!

Raekwon the Chef had a literal MEDIA FRENZY at his album release party at Santos Party House. Legendary figures from Hip-Hop came through and showed love for the chart-topping rapper, including his right-hand man in Wu Tang, Ghostface Killa. Congrats on the successful album Raekwon!

We love our boys at Cookies-n-Cream (shout out to camera man extraordinaire DJ Jon Blak)! We love them so much that we hosted one of their bi-weekly Ill Banger parties in the heart of the Lower East Side. Between the energy of the crowd, good tunes, drink specials and good food, it's no wonder the party is known as a banger!

Jazz band Jaspects stopped in NYC for their SOLD OUT performance at Joe's Pub and caught up with us before shutting it down on stage. These young men embody genuine talent and are indeed giving a new meaning to jazz--especially for young people who may need an introduction with incorporation of a few familiar elements such as Hip-Hop and R&B. They are currently promoting their "Polka dotted Stripes" album nation wide, which can be found on iTunes.

Model Management company Top Choice Models premiered their new talent with a kick off event at Karma Sutra Lounge. The models strutted in sequined bottoms and tailored suits while explaining their life's pursuits. Top Choice's founder Syrah Scott also addressed the crowd and talked about her enthusiasm of feeding the dreams of others.

Former pageant queen Christina A. Joseph is giving back to her hometown of New York City. In an effort to remind black girls everywhere that beauty is really skin deep, she directed the Miss Black Manhattan Pageant at the La Tea Teatro in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Two young ladies won the grand prize of first place--teen Lizette Terry and 20-something Pamela Ricardo, both of whom were recently featured in Ebony Magazine. Congrats on the achievement ladies! You are part of something that is becoming huger each year!

We have plenty of other events coming up, get ready for an exciting year! If you have an event you would like for us to cover, send us an e-mail at events@avenuepink.com or at info@avenuepink.com. Don't forget to join the block party!
