President Obama's Times Square Billboard Ad showcases him "Modeling" a trendy Weatherproof Jacket. Now how hot is that, was my initial response, but after reading a report in the Huffington Post, well.... I'll let you be the judge.
NEW YORK-A larger than life President Barack Obama became a presidential pitchman last Wednesday on a Times Square billboard that used his photo without permission.
Outwear company Weatherproof used a recent news photo of the president in front of the Great Wall in Badaing, China, for the advertisement, with tag line "A Leader In Style."
The White House said Wednesday that it will ask Weatherproof to remove the billboard because the ad misleads by suggesting it was approved by President Obama or the White House, which has a long-standing policy disapproving of the use of Obama's name and likeness for commercial purposes.
(And we all know what Obama personally thinks about that :) right).
Weatherproofs president Freddie Stollmack released a statement saying that getting approval was not needed since the ad did not state: This product is endorsed by President Barack Obama, and to be completely honest he's absolutely right.
Stollmack's final statement was "It's just a great looking jacket, on a great looking president." Personally I couldn't agree more....could they have tried to get approval....ABSOLUTELY, but would they have gotten approval.....Absolutely not. Weatherproof is now officially HELLA gangsta in my book, and let's be real here, you can't knock the hustle...WHAT I REALLY WANT TO KNOW IS....WHAT DO YOU THINK????
