QUEENS HOLDS ITS OWN FASHION WEEK: EVENTS ON THE AVE

While Bryant Park was in a frenzy to get high fashion models on runways, the borough of Queens decided to host their own fashion week for designers without the craze.

Queens Fashion Week took place in the Standard Motor Lofts in Long Island City. The three-day fest included a vendor EXPO room, a VIP lounge with nibbler sandwiches from The Manhattan View Holiday Inn and a large space for the fashion show. Actress and plus-size model Mia Amber—a Queens native, hosted the fashion shows while Chasity Saunders served as the official spokesmodel.

The styles ranged from formal gowns to casual t-shirts and leggings, all leaving a trademarked quality that would make it easy to spot out their clothing. The featured designers included:

Plus Size Designer Qristyl Frazier Designs
SK Wilbur
Kimmathi’s Beads
Eminent Fash
Leira FL
Designer Knitwear by Michi
Monica Yepez Exclusive Swimwear
Stella Gialla Boutique
Ashantiel
Eye Collection
OSUN Designs
Etheral Boutique

Onlookers for the Saturday show were packed at the Standard Motor Lofts to get a first glimpse of what these brands had to offer. Many were thrilled to find items that catered to their personal style.

Jade Eshete is a new resident of Queens that was glad to learn about another resource she can find locally. “I’m so impressed by these designers. I was totally clueless that this amount of talent existed in my neighborhood.”

Many press members made the trip to Queens including NY1, comedienne and BET producer/director Erica Watson and Chasity’s company, Avenue Pink.

The creators of Queens Fashion Week also decided to give a portion of the proceeds to non-profit organizations Yele Haiti and C h a s h a m a.
